Aarohi, in association
with Nabard, has formed a total of 30 Farmers’
Clubs in Nainital District. The aim has been to create
a forum for them to augment their income through exposure
to new ideas and techniques in the agricultural and
non-agricultural sector.
The program enables farmers to access farm and
non-farm related technologies, identify suitable
banks, develop links with trading agencies to improve
marketing of their products, keep abreast of new
policies, and learn from educational tours.
The
following activities were undertaken by
the clubs last year:
Training
of Farmers’ Club in making organic
manure and propagation of the same in
the village by trained farmers.
Construction
of toilets and rain water harvesting tanks.
Animal
husbandry of improved cattle and joint
collaboration of the clubs to open a dairy
collection and liaisoning with the state
dairy federation for information on improved
animal husbandry.
Vegetable
farming by farmers after successful promotion
of the same in the previous year. Profits
ranging from INR 10,000
to 15,000 were earned
by some farmers through the sale of vegetables.
Discussions
on various issues such as construction
of toilets, roads, dairy development,
improved agriculture and horticulture
practices by the clubs, and filing of
petitions to address these issues to the
concerned departments.
