| Although
most villages now have primary schools, they
are usually overcrowded and understaffed. The
curriculum is decided by the Basic Shiksha Parishad
and is not based in the context of rural mountain
reality. The aim of the state education seems
to be to provide some amount of literacy and
seems doubtful whether the state education lays
emphasis on creating confidence in children
to be able to stand on their own feet and to
become thinking and responsible citizens.
There is a strong perceived
need in the development sector to make education
meaningful and appropriate for the children.
Aarohi started initiatives in education believing
that that the children must become a major
focus of any development intervention, if
sustainable change is desired. |
